Ukulele Resource (For Those With Ukuleles at Home)

Hi everyone!

I am so sad that we were JUST getting started learning our ukuleles at school and we haven't been able to continue since then. If you have an ukulele at home and would like to continue practicing, here are some resources to help you along!

MusicPlay is one of my all-time favourite resources and it has lots of great stuff for ukulele! Click here to go to the ukulele part of the website.

On this website, some things to explore:

  1. You can play along with ANY of the songs on there under "Easy Ukulele Songs in C" (notice on the side it will tell you which chords you will need for the song).

  2. You can watch the "Introduction to the Ukulele" video (on the right hand side of the website) to review the basics of how to hold and play the ukulele.

  3. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will find two helpful tools: the "ukulele tuner in C" and the "ukulele chords in C" (so far in class we have learned the C, G, F, and Am chord).

We played along to "Riptide" by Vance Joy a few times, see below for the play-along video. Remember, if it's too speedy, you can change the playback speed by pressing the little gear icon in the bottom right corner of the youtube video and you can change the playback speed to 0.75).

Tip: Practice your chords one at a time and then practice switching between them! It's better to go slow with proper technique/notes than to switch really fast and play the chords with mistakes.

Any questions, comments, or wonderings, please send me an email at rdochstader@sd57.bc.ca and I'm happy to help! If you've learned a new song and want to share, I'd be delighted to see! Have you parents send me a video to my email if they can.

Happy playing!
