Percussion Instruments and DIY Instrument Kit (MusicPlay)

Hello everyone!

I will be sharing a lot of different resources to help provide a strong musical education at home while we can't be together at school. One of the resources I will be using a lot is an AMAZING website called MusicPlay. The students are used to seeing this up on my SmartBoard because I use this resource AT LEAST once every music class at Springwood.

I will be sharing select "online learning" lessons from the MusicPlay website here that I think would be fun for you, but please feel free to explore the other tools, games, and sections of the website! There is lots to do!

As with all of the other lessons I post, they are optional, but know that music is a fantastic way to keep active, express creativity, and improve literacy in other academic areas. Without further ado, here is the lesson!

Concepts Covered

- Percussion Family

- Timbre (the quality of sound)

Objectives

- I can sort instruments into categories as woods, metals, drums, shakes/scrapes

- I can tell what instrument is playing by it's sound (timbre)

Please note that although it says Kindergarten at the top, this lesson is appropriate for all primary grades [K-3]

If you're able to keep this instrument kit, it will be useful to have instruments to play for future music lessons!

If You'd Like To Share (email me at rdochstader@sd57.bc.ca)

- Send pictures of the sorted instruments you found

- Send a picture of the completed worksheet pages

- Send a video playing with the song "Play and Stop" or a rhythm creation from the "Rhythm Composition Tool"

Happy Music Making!
