This Week's Music Monday:

Throat singing is one of the oldest singing traditions in the world. Originating in three very distinct parts of the world, throat singing has been traced back thousands of years in Northern Canada, Central Asia, and South Africa. Music has been used by historians, geographers, and anthropologists alike to trace cultures and traditions back to the beginning of human kind. This week’s Music Monday song features two young men who practice throat singing from the Altai Mountains in Russia. Holding tradition all over the globe, throat singing is one of the most unique sounds in the world. Take a listen to“Altai Throat Singing”by Altyn Tuu.

Things To Think About While Listening:

- How does throat singing differ from regular singing?

- If you try to do it, are you successful? Do you sound like the men in the video?

- Why do you think throat singing has been around so long?

- Do you think throat singing is as popular today as it was thousands of years ago?

Happy listening,

Ms. Dochstader
