Hello everyone!
This week's music Monday is a comparison of two versions of the exact same song. This week's song is called "Old Friend" by Elderbrook.
Elderbook is the stage name of Alexander Kotz, from Britain in the UK. He is known for his versatility as a musician, as he is recognised as a multi-instrumentalist (meaning he plays lots of different instruments). He has taken influences from country and soul to rock and gospel, classically trained in both piano and guitar. When he makes his songs, he follows his ambition to "make something I haven't heard before."
He has been known to record unique sounds such as the breaking of reading glasses and crackling ice in a warm coffee and adding those sounds to his songs. He also stated in an interview that he would "often bang the table I sat at, record it and use that as my drums”
Here is two versions of the same song "Old Friend". The first video is an acoustic recording, meaning you'll hear him playing the piano and singing. The second video is an electronic recording of the same song. See if you can hear what makes them similar. What makes them different?
[warning: the second video contains images of digital wolves that MAY be a little frightening to younger students]
Happy listening,
Ms. Dochstader
