Hello everyone!
If you close your eyes and try to imagine what a musician looks like, I bet this week's Music Monday musician will surprise you! Gaelynn Lea was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic condition that causes complications in the development of bones and limbs. Lea became inspired by classical music from an early age, and in fifth grade a teacher took notice and encourages Lea to pursue music.
Lea developed a technique for playing violin which involves holding the bow "like a baseball bat" with the body of the instrument placed in front of her like a cello, and attached to her foot so it won't slip while she plays.
Here is Gaelynn playing "Someday we'll linger in the sun".
Happy listening,
Ms. Dochstader
