Making Rhythms using Plates!

Writer's picture: Ms. DochstaderMs. Dochstader

Hi everyone,

Here is an idea of how to use objects around the house to create your own rhythms! Objects that I used in this video were dinner plates, apples, lemons, peas, waterbottles, pens, and pencils. I also have a piece of paper to write down my rhythms after! You can use almost ANYTHING you find around the house.

In this video (for grades 4+) I will teach you how to use things around the house to make rhythms, including quarter notes (ta), barred eighth notes (ti-ti), and sixteenth notes (tika-tika). In this video I will also give you time to clap/speak MY rhythms along with me if you can't make your own at home.

If you ARE able to make your own at home, I'd love to see! Send me a picture or video of you making/clapping your rhythms by email at rdochstader@sd57.bc.ca.

Have fun making music, I miss you all!
